Wakulla County Announces Improvements at Medart Recreation Park

The Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners announces several improvements that have been made at Medart Recreation Park.

The completed improvements include the following:

  • Re-Sodded the youth baseball/softball Fields #4 & #5 
  • Resurfaced and painted all four basketball courts
  • Installed a new playground
  • Installed an additional kiosk and new directional/locational maps

The improvements totaling approximately $122,000 were paid for with One Cent Sales Tax funds. In November 2015, the Board increased the One Cent Sales Tax funding proportions for public parks and recreation from 5% to 10%. This increase has allowed for the needed improvements to be made at the Medart Recreation Park this year.

Some other improvements that were made this year but not funded by the One Cent Sales Tax was installation of a new scoreboard at Field #10 and renovations of the football bleachers on Fields #10 & #11.

"These improvements demonstrate our commitment to providing our citizens with safe conditions. We continue to be proactive in improving our parks and recreation amenities in an effort to make it safe and inviting," said County Administrator David Edwards.
