EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:   PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER

The Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Public Information Officer within the Administration Office. This is a highly professional, responsible position with minimal supervision. The position reports to the County Administrator.

This is professional and creative public contact work directing the dissemination of public information and marketing for the Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners. Through appropriate communication forums, the core function of this position is conveying accurate information to the public about the Board of County Commissioners and their projects, initiatives and/or events. This position manages all media relations, public information programs, digital communications for the BoCC and its various Departments, including the TDC website, social media, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. Is responsible for the management of staff and oversight of the Tourist Development Council. Projects assigned are generally of high organizational impact and involve working with BOCC Directors and Managers on sensitive issues. Work is performed under the general supervisor of the County Administrator, but the incumbent must exercise considerable initiative, ingenuity, creativity, dependability, and independence judgement. Accomplishments are judged through conferences, written reports, ability to meet deadlines and results achieved.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Journalism or Communication. Five years’ experience in journalism, marketing, public relations, communications or a related field may substitute for the required Bachelor’s Degree. Must be comfortable and have experience with public speaking and creative writing and be proficient with all facets of social media. Supervisory experience is a must and the ability to effectively communicate with the public. Outstanding customer service skills are required. Travel outside of the local area is possible.
