EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: Senior Animal Control Officer

The Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Senior Animal Control Officer within the division of Public Safety. This is a highly professional, responsible position with minimal supervision. The position reports to the Director of Animal Services.

This position is responsible for overseeing and training Animal Control Officers and other staff, community service workers and volunteers as assigned. Must be capable of enforcing ordinances and state statutes governing responsibility of animal ownership. Must be capable of investigating complaints, of cruelty to animals; pick up animals reported as sick or injured; able to keep and maintain routine records and reports; possibly appear in court on cases involving animal regulation violations; responds to emergency calls when on duty; supervise staff on all aspects of shelter management including approved cleaning methods, medicine administration, daily feeding and other operational issues. Fill in for the Director as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and five years experience as an Animal Control Officer or experience in animal welfare in a professional setting. Must be (currently) certified as an Animal Control Officer. Must be certified, experienced and capable of performing euthanasia as warranted. Must be able to function effectively under pressure. Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record. Must have outstanding communication skills.
