Commissioner Thomas is a graduate of Wakulla High School, class of 1984. He is married to Cynthia Thomas and has three children, Caleb, Holly, and Bethany. He is expecting a Grandson in November.  He attends Wakulla Springs Baptist Church.

He is currently employed by AmeriFirst Home Mortgage working as a Mortgage Loan Officer in Wakulla County since 1999. From 1997 to 1999, he was an Associate Engineer at Talla-Comm Industries in Tallahassee. From 1985 to 1997, he was a Sonar Technician and Electronics Technician in the US Navy, earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E-7).

He was first elected as a County Commissioner in 2012 and re-elected in 2016.
