09/14/16 ~ Commissioner Ralph Thomas Appointed to FAC CRC Steering Committee

news

In anticipation of the 2017-2018 Florida Constitution Revision Commission (“CRC”), the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) created a Steering Committee for which Commissioner Ralph Thomas was selected to serve on.  The Steering Committee will be chaired by FAC’s Immediate Past President and Vice Mayor Barbara Sharief (Broward) and Vice-Chaired by past presidents Commissioners Grover Robinson (Escambia), John Manning (Lee), Bryan Desloge (Leon), Doug Smith (Martin) and Teresa Jacobs (Orange). The remainder of the Committee will be comprised of commissioners, county administrators, county attorneys and staff.

The charge of this Steering Committee will be to research and recommend draft CRC proposals and amendments, and to actively engage with the CRC by attending and participating in public hearings. The committee will also recommend to the Legislative Executive Committee FAC’s positions on CRC proposals and strategize on appointments to the CRC. The committee will be supported by the Florida Association of County Attorneys’ (FACA) Constitution Revision Committee chaired by County Attorney Herb Thiele (Leon) and Vice-Chaired by County Attorneys Jeff Newton (Orange) and Greg Stewart (Okaloosa).  “This is an historic event in that the Florida CRC occurs only once every 20 years and has the potential of creating long lasting impacts by changing Florida’s Constitution,” stated Lisa Hurley, FAC Legislative Director, “as such the success of our platform depends on active engagement and participation from Commissioner Thomas and fellow committee members.”
