08/08/16 ~ New Employment Opportunity (Building Inspector)

Wakulla County seeks qualified applicants for the position of Building Inspector-Multiple within the Board of County Commissioners.  This is a full-time benefitted position, responsible for conducting inspections of building construction, erection, repair, addition or alteration projects that require permitting as required by state law, municipal or county ordinance.  This position reports directly to the Chief Building Official.

Essential Functions:  This position is responsible for the inspection of construction sites, mobile homes for alterations and/or repairs for conformance with drawings and specifications approved by the Building Division and for compliance with applicable laws and county ordinances.  Meets with owners, building contractors to discuss problems and corrective actions.  Follows assigned building projects from start to finish as directed.  Coordinates with applicable agencies to ensure their approval of project to approving the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy.   Receives inspection requests and schedules workday in order to meet the needs of the public and maintain work assignments.  Assists Code Enforcement as necessary.  Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and involves exposure to hazardous machinery, dust and extreme weather conditions.  Must have a thorough working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, gas, heating and air conditioning, building and fire codes and regulations.  Must possess the ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans and specifications.  Ability to communicate effectively and provide outstanding customer service is essential to successful employment.

The desirable applicant must have a valid Florida Driver’s License; either currently possess or obtain a Provisional or Standard License issued by the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation as a 1 and 2 Family Dwelling Inspector and a commercial license in mechanical, plumbing, building or electrical.   To apply, send a Wakulla County application to: Human Resources, P.O.
