Wakulla County Commissioner Ralph Thomas Receives Presidential Advocacy Award

Presidential Advocacy Award (003)

During the Florida Association of Counties 2016 Annual Conference, Commissioner Ralph Thomas received the Presidential Advocacy Award, which is given to County Commissioners who have shown exceptional leadership in partnering with FAC to advance the counties' legislative agenda.  "Commissioner Thomas' willingness to advocate for counties was not only essential to the success of FAC's legislative efforts, but it was also of great service to the citizens of Wakulla County," FAC Executive Director Scott Shalley said. "The commissioner's advocacy was invaluable in helping ensure that local governments are provided the flexibility and tools they need to meet the needs of Florida's citizens."  “When first elected, four years ago, I made a commitment to make a difference for my County and my State” said Commissioner Thomas.  “That commitment has required a tremendous amount of effort, but the benefit received by Wakulla County have been well worth the effort.”

Commissioner Thomas was also awarded the title “Torchbearer”, a distinction received by only 90 Commissioners throughout the State.  Torchbearers are Commissioners who have completed the Certified County Commissioner and Advanced County Commissioner programs who continue to participate in FAC activities and educational offerings once they complete their certifications.

For the upcoming 2016 FAC Legislative Conference, Commissioner Thomas was appointed to serve as Vice Chairman of the Growth Management, Agriculture and Environment Committee.

Commissioner Thomas was elected by his fellow Commissioners, across the State, as Vice Chairman of the Small County Coalition.  He received the Leadership and Service Award for his service to small counties and rural areas as Co-Chairman of the Florida Association of Counties Rural Caucus.
