VETERANS SERVICES OFFICER

Wakulla County, Florida seeks qualified applicants for the position of Veterans Service Officer within the Board of County Commissioners.  This is a part-time position (24 hrs per week) with no benefit package, requiring comprehensive knowledge of Federal Law (US Code of Federal Regulations), Title 38, State Laws and Regulations applying to Veterans and their dependents in obtaining all benefits to which they are entitled by law. 

The Veterans Service Officer plans, organizes and directs the operations and activities of the Veterans Service Office.  Responsibilities include interviewing and counseling Veterans and their dependents, processing claims based upon military service involving compensation, pension, hospitalization, insurance, housing, transportation, outpatient treatment, educational assistance, and other related entitlements. Veterans’ eligibility is established by law and claims are processed according to standard policy. Travel outside the office may be required for field work and educational requirements. 

The selected candidate must qualify under Section 292.11, Florida Statutes and Title 38, U.S.C.; must be certified by the State Director of Veteran’s Affairs.  Must maintain professional education through Florida Division of Veterans’ Affairs refresher courses; must possess valid Florida Driver’s license and a good driving record.

 

The desirable applicant must have a high school diploma or its equivalent; graduation from an accredited university, college, or community college with a two (2) year degree and four (4) years of administrative experience; must be able to speak publicly if called upon; must be computer literate; have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; have the ability to exercise good judgment in counseling and in assisting Veterans’ and their families in times of need.
