Wakulla County Contracts with Waste Pro![]() Continued... Waste Pro has agreed to provide many other services such as bulk waste and white goods pickup which includes furniture, bicycles, grills, stoves, refrigerators, washers, and dryers. Waste Pro is also offering additional services for residents at a nominal charge. The County is excited to see their efforts toward promoting recycling and for those who need more than one recycle bin additional bins will be provided at no charge. Waste Pro has been very proactive in working with the County to make sure the resident’s needs are met. “I’m glad to see the County move toward such a great benefit and believe this will eliminate trash in our woods and on our roadways,” said Commissioner Alan Brock. Hardship Assistance Program:In an effort to assist the “Very Low Income Persons” who meet the eligibility criteria with the financial burden created by the imposition of the Solid Waste Assessment, the Board included a Hardship Assistance Program. The following income criteria which is determined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development must be demonstrated: Very Low (50%) Income Limits:
In order to apply for Hardship Assistance under the FY2011/12 Solid Waste Services Assessment Program, the applicant must complete a Hardship Assistance Application and have it filed with the County Administrator’s Office for consideration prior to October 15, 2011 and prior to June 1st each year thereafter. Vacancy Adjustment Program:In addition, the Board is also providing a Vacancy Adjustment Program of residential property for the Solid Waste Assessment. The Vacancy Adjustment Program allows any property owner to seek a refund of the Solid Waste Assessment for residential property which is vacant for the entire Fiscal Year. The owner shall file a request for adjustment with the County Administrator’s Office at least fifteen days following the end of each Fiscal Year (September 30th). The request shall contain the following information:
Failure to file the request with the County Administrator’s Office within the time permitted shall be deemed to be a waiver of the right to a refund. The County Administrator or his designee shall review the request and, if approved, refund the owner the amount of the Solid Waste Service Assessment.
