Ochlockonee Bay Bike Trail (OBBT)

   The Ochlockonee Bay Bike Trail (OBBT
) is a 13-mile bicycle/pedestrian paved trail extending from Mashes Sands County Park in southern Wakulla County along Surf Road to the City of Sopchoppy (see map below).    The OBBT provides an outdoor experience for biking and light hiking through a small remote coastal community, the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge and the historic City of Sopchoppy.   The trail provides a view of wild marshes and tidal creeks, native wildlife and vegetation, historic Sopchoppy Train Depot, and lots of wide open sky.

The OBBT trailhead is located at the end of SR 372/Mashes Sands Park, a 15 minute drive from US 98, just south of Panacea. Amenities at Mashes Sands County Park-Trailhead:    Picnic facilities, restrooms, parking, and boat ramp.  Note, there are no public amenities or shelters along the trail.  

The OBBT is divided into the following phases as shown on the map and described below:

Phase 1:begins just west of the Mashes Sands trailhead and ends east of the Tide Creek Bridge (approx. 2 miles long). This phase is complete.

Phase 2:  includes the Tide Creek Bridge and proceeds along Mashes Sands Road (CR 372) across the intersection of US 98, where CR 372 turns into Surf Road and extends approximately 1.90 miles along Surf Road (approx. 2 miles long). Expected completion date is late 2016.

 Phase 3: picks up where Phase 2 ends and continues running along Surf Road ending at the southeastern boundary of the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge (approx. 2 miles long).  This phase is complete.

Phase 4:  passes entirely within the St. Marks National Refuge running alongside of Surf Road (approx. 5 miles long). This phase is complete.

Phase 5A:  picks up at the west end of the St. Marks National Refuge (where Phase 4 ends), running along Surf Road to the intersection of US 319, Sopchoppy city limits (approx. 1 mile long). This Phase is complete.

Phase 5B: picks up at the intersection of Surf Road and US 319, running along US 319 and ending in Sopchoppy at the historic Train Depot (approx. 1 mile long). Expected completion late 2016.

Funding for the OBBT has been provided by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), with support from the Capital Region Transportation Planning Agency (CRTPA).
