Lynn Artz

(850) 728-7213 Term Ends: 2012 About Lynn Artz Education Artz earned her undergraduate degree from Penn State (in 2 years), her medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, and a Masters of Public Health degree from Harvard. She also has a masters degree in secondary education. Work Experience Artz practiced medicine briefly, seeing cardiology patients in Memphis and staffing rural emergency rooms in Mississippi, then focused on improving community health. Artz held faculty appointments at two Universities, conducted federally funded research, and authored publications in professional journals. From 1988-1990, Artz served as Senior Prevention Policy Advisor in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C. Afterwards, she helped to direct an award-winning worksite wellness program for municipal employees in Birmingham, AL. Family Lynn Artz has been married for 19 years to Jim Hilyer. An exercise physiologist, Hilyer has coached football (Mississippi State, Auburn University, Washington Redskins, Alabama-Birmingham). He is also a licensed psychologist and provides sport psychology services to the U.S. Paralympic Team. Together, they have a son, Chase, age 9, and live in Medart. Community Service Though a busy mother, Artz is involved with many local organizations, often taking a leadership role. Artz is on the Board of the Friends of Wakulla Springs State Park and the Planning Committee for the annual Green Living & Energy Expo. For 5 years, Artz has coordinated the annual Crawfordville Arbor Day Celebration. From 2005-2008, Artz chaired the Wakulla Health Care Task Force. Artz is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, participates on the Economic Development Council, and supports the work of many other local organizations. In addition, Artz is on the Board of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs and coordinates an annual statewide environmental conference for teens called SEEK. |
